Arizona Spa Girls review of the Centre for Well-Being at The Phoenician.
The Centre for Well-Being at The Phoenician will always be a sentimental favorite among all the spas that I’ve been lucky enough to visit. One, because it was the first spa that I’ve ever been to and two, because it was the very place that inspired me to start a business dedicated to Arizona’s spas and salons. It was also where I became a spa addict.
On my first visit, I was joined by a posse of girlfriends visiting from the east coast. We were a bunch of giddy, very excited girls and from the moment we entered the doors of the Centre for Well-Being, we all experienced our own bit of magic that day. Once we checked in and changed into our luxurious spa gear, we dispersed for several hours to our individual treatments. My first treatment was a custom facial. And it was not just any facial — to this day, I still visit the same aesthetician when I need a supercharged, deep cleansing facial. She gave my first eyebrow waxing too, one that my German and Italian ancestors would have been extremely grateful for. I then walked over the salon for a French pedicure that was so professionally done, I wasn’t able to take my eyes off my toes for weeks after.
By noon, coiffed and dizzy from our experiences, we gathered in the Centre’s Meditation Atrium where we reclined in the leather chaise loungers and awaited a guided meditation offered daily to spa and resort guests. Our meditation leader softly lulled us into a semi-conscious state and guided us through a series of mental journeys that allowed us to explore our inner selves. Once awakened and feeling extremely refreshed, we exchanged stories of what we saw during our trance. One friend saw a beautiful golden orb and me, well I saw a short, hairy old man but that’s another story.
Now that our skin glowed and our minds were nourished, it was time to feed our bodies. So, looking much like a gang of hooded spa thugs, the five of us then tramped out across the expansive grounds of The Phoenician to the Oasis poolside restaurant. After our healthy lunch, feeling full and lazy, we plopped into some lounge chairs by the pool, ordered some not-so-healthy margaritas and enjoyed the last minutes of our glorious spa day.
In all, it was a day of full of firsts, much too much pampering, great camaraderie and even the beginnings of a business. Piling into my car after our day came to an end, everyone seemed to glow with a sense of quiet bliss. I’ve been back several times since, and although a few faces have changed and some visits have been better than others, the Centre for Well-Being is truly the epitome of luxury where the attentive service and top-notch treatments are sincerely dedicated to the art of pampering the mind, body and soul.
