Recently, I had the privilege of experiencing the intimate offerings of the Tocaloma Spa & Salon at the Pointe Hilton at Tapatio Cliffs. As you might know, the Pointe Hilton resorts are equipped with water slides and lazy river pools and are known for being great destinations for families with children, but don’t let that convince you that rest and relaxation are the trade-off. Tocaloma does an impeccable job of creating the spectacular getaway that we spa girls crave while our families splash and play a mere 20 feet away.
Tocaloma isn’t your typical sprawling resort and offers a more intimate feel like that of a high-end salon. When I entered I was greeted by their extremely friendly and professional staff that includes women who’ve been on the Tocaloma team for well over 10 years. I was led passed the hair and nail stations toward the back of the spa, where I was given a locker and outfitted with a super-soft spa robe and a brand new pair of flip-flops. Then, I was escorted to the lounge area where I sipped fresh cucumber water while anticipating my first service.
Patsy, an aesthetician and massage therapist who has worked at Tocaloma for a whopping 17 years, came to take me in for my first two services. We entered a dimly lit room that held a heated bed, comfortable and soft, and smelled of deliciously calming skincare products. She explained what we’d be doing; it was their signature Red Wine and Green Tea Body Soufflé. To prep my skin for the fabulous benefits I’d be receiving, she used a skin brush to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. Then she covered my skin in this silky concoction of essential oils and vitamin C, filled with anti-aging benefits. The wrap was completed by covering my skin in soothing body milk intended to reduce cellulite and create a sense of peace; then, I was wrapped up to let the soufflé work its magic.
After the wrap I took a fabulous steamed, eucalyptus shower to remove the product from my skin then went back to Patsy for a Tocaloma Signature Massage. Suffice to say, the massage rocked too. Patsy was very attentive to my specific aches and pains and even spent extra time on my scalp, which I love!
Next I enjoyed a Seaweed Facial from Tocaloma spa pro Bonnie. I always wondered what benefits seaweed contributed to skin, and I learned that the plant is packed with vitamins, minerals and amino acids that revive, smooth and even out skin tone. Bonnie added a few gentle but necessary extractions and an exfoliating pumice treatment that left my face feeling cover girl refreshed.
My last service was a Shellac Manicure, something I had never experienced but heard a lot about. Laura, the manicurist, explained the process to me before she got to the task at hand. The manicure was unlike any other that I’ve had before. After each coat Laura instructed me to put my hands in a UV lamp for a specific amount of time; first 15 seconds then 2 minutes. After the color was finished, Laura applied a special top coat that sealed and dried my nails instantly. It was pretty amazing to be able to touch things immediately after a manicure.
Tocaloma may not be a biggest spa in town but their quality services, stellar staff and tailor-made attention cannot be beat. I will definitely be going back!
