Deep Stress? Try the Deep Six Massage at the VH Spa.
As a soon-to-be-bride (3 weeks and counting, ahh!), I have been so stressed out that I can feel a tight line of knots across my back in between my shoulders. Not good. I decided it was time for a massage, but not just any massage, I wanted to try something serious.
About a month ago, I was visiting the VH Spa at Hotel Valley Ho to use my Arizona Spa Girls Summer Spaaah Series gift certificate. During my Back.Neck.Shoulders Massage with therapist Matt Murdoch, he told me that I could really benefit from the Deep Six Massage, an intense 90-minute treatment that involves six massage styles and a series of six deep stretches to de-stress the body.
So, when the knots got the best of me, I decided to book the Deep Six Massage at the VH Spa ($185 for the 90-minute treatment). Matt is a massage therapist not only at the VH Spa, but also at other resort spas around the valley. What’s really cool is that he owns a company called Dream Innovations that trains massage therapists around the world on proper massage techniques and new treatments. Matt actually developed the Deep Six Massage, so I knew I was in for a treat!
If you haven’t been to the VH Spa – GO! It’s super hip with a very chill vibe that I love more and more each time I visit. After relaxing for a few minutes in the women’s lounge, Matt took me to the treatment room to get started. He started by massaging my neck and shoulders with very deep pressure. Almost immediately the knots in my shoulders felt better. As he worked this technique around my body he was able to loosen up knots and tight areas that I didn’t even realize I had, like along the side of my neck and in my arms.
Then, came the stretching. Being that I’m not the world’s most flexible person and that I’m an avid spin-aholic who doesn’t stretch afterward, it was a bit painful (in a good way). Each movement was slow, so the stretch got more intense after a few minutes. With each stretch, Matt worked another massage technique around my muscles and joints that he wasn’t able to get when my body wasn’t positioned in weird angles.
The entire 90-minute treatment offers something new every few minutes, so you get an amazingly deep massage but it’s not the same thing over and over. The treatment ended with a wonderful head and neck massage that left me uber relaxed.
I would highly recommend this treatment to anyone who is a stressed out (hello brides-to-be!), and especially to anyone who is an athlete or who works out frequently. The deep stretches and massages are sure to soothe your muscles and calm your mind. Now, back to wedding planning, urgh!
